March 2, 2021 was the 5th anniversary of the death of Berta
Cáceres. After winning the Goldman Environmental Prize
she was murdered for successfully organizing opposition to
the Agua Zarca Dam in Honduras. Corporations are investing
in energy production, which includes hydropower and solar and
wind power as well as fossil fuels. This leads to loss of autonomy
by communities in Latin America, Africa, and Asia as well as
extensive environmental damage

NINA LAKHANI, Environmental Justice correspondent for
the Guardian US, has written on forced migration, consequences
of the war on drugs, state sponsored violence, corruption, and
impunity, gender violence, environmental defenders and the battle
for natural resources. She is the author of Who Killed Berta
Cáceres? Dams, Death Squads, and an Indigenous Defender’s
Battle for the Planet, published in 2020.
JUDY ANCEL directed the labor education program at the
University of Missouri in Kansas City for 29 years. She
organized the Cross Border Network for Justice and Solidarity
which has sponsored delegations to Mexico and Honduras to
investigate impacts of neoliberalism.
DAN HELLINGER is Professor Emeritus of International
Relations at Webster University. His most recent publications
are the third edition of Comparative Politics of Latin America,
and Conspiracy Theories in the Age of Trump.
DON FITZ, the 2016 candidate of the Missouri Green Party for
Governor, is on the Editorial Board of Green Social Thought.
His book on Cuban Health Care: The Ongoing Revolution was
published in 2020.
